Thursday, Aug. 27th- Music, Business, and Lakeshore Cafe

Well it's been a whirlwind of a week! Lots of exciting things are goin on! I got in the studio today and started working on a project with Infrared Studios (www.infraredstudioproductions.com) that I will pitch to labels and publishing companies! Some of the songs I've already recorded, but we are putting a fresh spin on them. I'm excited to get everything going, and I can't wait to see what happens!
I'm heading down to Lakeshore Cafe to play tomorrow night! The show is from 6:30 till 10. This is my second time playing there with James and Kim Jenkins running the show. Last time I was there the crowd was great and the food was AWESOME!! I can't wait for tomorrow night!
I'll keep ya'll updated on the progress in the studio. If ya'll can make it out to Lakeshore I'd sure appreciate it! Hope ya'll check out my website (www.bencoulteronline.com) and my Myspace page (www.myspace.com/bencoulter). Since I'm about to start pitching my music to labels, these 2 sites need to have a VERY HIGH volume of traffic. So please go by the sites, add me as a myspace friend, leave comments on the pages, and tell your friends to do the same!! You hold the key to my success!! Have a great weekend!

Beginning of a new week- Monday Aug. 24, 2008

Sorry it's been a week since the last entry. It's been a busy week! Last week was great! I played at Foghorns (www.foghornswings.com) in Fayetteville on Thursday and Friday night. There were great crowds and it was alot of fun! Thanks everybody for coming out! I also want to say a special thank you to Jarrett Jackson at 102.3 KCJC radio station in Russellville, AR. They had me in studio to do an interview for their show on Friday. It was alot of fun and they've been promoting my song "I'm a Razorback Fan", so we talked alot about the Hogs!! I hope to get the interview up on my website. I have posted some new pics up on my website (www.bencoulteronline.com). Hope ya'll check them out!! I also got a chance to perform for the VP of Virgin Music Group this Saturday night!! Things went really great, and I'm excited to see what the future holds!! Gone to do some writing!!

It was a big weekend up in Fayetteville, AR this weekend at Sassy's Red House (http://www.sassysredhouse.com/). They had their Grand Opening this weekend!! Sassy Jones himself (http://www.barbecueandspice.com/) came up along with his wife, daughter, son in law, and grandaughter!! It was a really good crowd, alot folks came out not only to get some great BBQ, but to listen to me!! It was really cool having the folks come out! I can't wait to get back! I'm back in Fayetteville at Foghorns (http://www.foghornswings.com/) this Thursday and Friday, getting ready for that! They have great chicken and brownie bites that are INCREDIBLE!!

Today was a day for calling venues, and doing some internet work. I'm also starting doin guitar lesson, so I spent alot of the day getting the word out about that! I hope to audition tomorrow for a new Opry show in Conway called the Mid-South Opry. They just opened this past weekend, but it sounds really cool!! I'll let you know how it goes.

Thursday, Aug. 13th, 2009 - Getting closer to the weekend

Well today was one of those days that seemed like I worked on all kinds of things. Which could be a bad thing, or a good thing. Yesterday was my day to work on Music Marketing and study Bob Baker's Guerilla Music Marketing book ( www.bob-baker.com ), and most of the day I concentrated on that one thing. I felt like I really got alot of stuff accomplished. Today I worked a little on Marketing, a little on calling venues, getting press kits together, and all that kind of stuff. I went around Maumelle, here where I'm living now, trying to get some gigs, but most people don't want Live Music. It's really frustrating trying to find places to play. I don't understand why places wouldn't want live music. To me, there is nothing better than going out and listening to good Live Music. Well maybe things will change!!

What I've been trying to do lately is do something every day to promote my music. Whether on Facebook, MySpace, My website www.bencoulteronline.com, or through calling venues, I have been good about this. I read in Bob Baker's Book that over time if you are persistent in doing something every day, even something small, that you could really see the difference in your career over time!

I'm really looking forward to playing up in Fayetteville, AR this weekend for the Grand Opening of Sassy's Red House BBQ and Grill www.sassysredhouse.com . Sassy's Red House serves Sassy Jones BBQ sauce (www.barbecueandspice.com ), which is made in Montrose, Arkansas by my neighbors!! It's going to be a really great night!! Mr. Bill, Mrs. Sharon, Jessie and Tippi are coming up, so it will be good to have some home folks there!! I play 7 till 10 Saturday night, hope ya'll can come out!!

Well my artist of the week is Malindia Shoptaw from Paron, Arkansas. http://www.reverbnation.com/malindiashoptawsongwriter
Malindia, in my opininon, is one of the best songwriters out there right now. One day her songs will be heard all over the radio. She has one, "I'd Die Trying", that I sang on the demo, and I really think its a hit song. We also worked on one called "Headed Home" that I hope to put on my next album. I also hope to put "I'd Die Trying" on there also. "Headed Home" is kind of a truckers song I guess you could say. It has the same kind of beat as "Highway 61 Blues"....that good train, truckin sound!! More to come later on Malindia!!

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 - Work on Marketing my Music Day

Good Morning! Today is Wednesday, and for me that means a day of working on Music Marketing. I purchased a book from Bob Baker at www.bob-baker.com called Guerilla Music Marketing. This book is a crash course in marketing your music. It gave me the motivation to get this blog going! So today I will study the book.....I thought when I got out of school I was through studying! I will study the book, and find ways to apply the principles he lays out in the book!! When I started playing music, I didnt realize there were so many things to do besides playing music. It seems playing music is only about 5% of what I do!! It's crazy!!

As promised I wanted to give ya'll a new artist of the week to check out!! This week I want to feature a great songwriter from Paron, Arkansas! Her name is Malindia Shoptaw. Check her out at http://www.reverbnation.com/malindiashoptawsongwriter . I sing "I'd die Trying" on her page! More about her in the next few days!!

Thanks for checking out the blog today. Hope ya'll have a great day!!
God Bless,
Ben
